Mrs. Dorothea (RASCH) KROST, sixth child of the late Ernst and Luise (KUEHNE) RASCH died at her home in St. Elmo, Illinois, May 3, 1939, at the age of 88 years 10 months and 7 days. Mrs. KROST was born in Stapelburg, Saxony, Germany, June 26, 1850. Her ancestors were farmers and bakers. Ernst RASCH, her father, was a baker and continued that trade for a short time in St. Louis before coming to Illinois to make his home.

In 1852, with his wife and ten children he came to America landing in New York City and traveling by train directly to St. Louis. After a few years the family removed to a farm in St. Clair County, Illinois, and later to a farm near Trenton, in Clinton County. Mrs. KROST spent about seventy-four years of her life in Clinton County.

At the age of 14 she was confirmed and received into St. John's Evangelical Church at Trenton. In the years that followed all her nine children were also baptized and confirmed in the same faith.

November 18, 1869, Dorothea RASCH was married to John KROST in Trenton, Illinois, at the home of the pastor of the St. John's Evangelical Church. Mr. and Mrs. John Krost were the parents of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy, the other nine surviving her and all present for her funeral.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. KROST lived on farms in south central Illinois until 1926. Their first home was in Bond County, for several

years they lived near Trenton, a farm ten miles northwest of Carlyle was their next home, and for 37 years they lived on a farm still known as the KROST farm one mile north of Ferrin.

Two years after her husband's death in 1926, she and her daughter, Martha, left their farm home and lived in Nokomis, Illinois.

In 1930 they removed to St. Elmo where she made her home until her death. Only two deaths have occurred in Mrs. KROST's family in sixty-four years, that of her husband in 1926 and her own. On April 19 (?) she fell in her home and fractured her right hip. The fracture and complications caused her death.
