Gilbert "Gib" Beckemeyer, 89, of Beckemeyer, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

Born in Breese on October 29, 1917, he was the son of August and Cora (Auchmann) Beckemeyer and they preceded him in death. He married Ann Knebler on July 21, 1941, in Beckemeyer and she preceded him in death on January 21, 2007.

He is survived by two sons, Dave (Joyce) Beckemeyer and Dan (Karen) Beckemeyer, both of Beckemeyer; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, be was preceded in death by three sisters, Olive List, Audrey Puckett and Juanita Brown; and two brothers, Roy "Pal" Beckemeyer and Kenneth "Zev" Beckemeyer.

He owned and operated Beckemeyer Sales and Service in Beckemeyer for many years. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 in Beckemeyer and served in the U.S. Army during World War IL He was a very good horseshoe pitcher, winning many awards. He also owned many race horses.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church with Fr. Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 to 10 a.m.
