Thomas Jantzen

Thomas "Tom" Jantzen, 72, of Centralia, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.

He was born August 19, 1935, in Bartelso, the son of Leo H. Jantzen and Eleanora Huene.

He is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Tom) Champion of Salem, Lisa Jantzen and Michelle (Tony) Meyer of Highland; five grandchildren, Aaron (Elicia) Champion of Herrin, Amy (Bill) Stahlman of Highland, Michael (Christina) Berne of Aviston, Collin Meyer and Autumn Meyer of Highland; three great-grandchildren, Ian and Asa Champion and Hannah Berne; five sisters, Mary (Brent) Heier of Trenton, Jane (Dan) Rosen of Highland, Julie (Reggie) Detmer of Breese, Ruth (Gene) Loepker of Bartelso and Suzanne (Jim) LeRoy of Woodbury, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Jantzen; and special friend Betty Mitchell.

He was a journeyman lineman electrician for many years, a member of I.B.E.W. Local --702 of West Frankfort. He served in the United States Marine Air Wing, achieving the rank of sergeant and served in Korea, Japan and Okinawa in helicopter units. He graduated from Aviston High School and attended Kaskaskia College. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post --2055, a life member of Ruf-Marcham American Legion Post --404 of Carlyle and Moose Lodge 1219 of Centralia. He enjoyed flying, fishing and golf. He was of the Catholic Faith.

Graveside services were held Monday, October 15, at the Mound City National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with full military rites accorded.

Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle handled the arrangements.
