Veronica C. Maue June 3, 1917 - May 4, 2009

Veronica C. "Vera" Maue, 91, of Damiansville, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Aviston. Born June 3, 1917 in St. Rose, Ill., she was the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Strieker) Poettker. She married Harold Maue June 25, 1947 at St. Francis Church in Aviston and he survives in Damiansville.

In addition to her husband Harold, she is survived by her children, Dave (Maria) Maue of Bartelso, Roger (Holly) Maue of Trenton and Barb Maue of Shiloh, and close family friend, Kim Shevlin; six grandchildren, Kim (Ryan) Macy, Allison (Doug) Hicks, Brent (Maritza) Maue, Adam Maue, Katrina Maue and Mark Maue; five great grandchildren, Olivia, Everett, Chloe, Aidan and Colton; Eight sisters-in-law; Bernice Poettker, Ann Langhauser, Bernice Huelsmann, Irene Maue, Mary Ann Maue, Delores Maue and Mary Maue; brother-in-law Donald (Julie) Maue.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Victor Poettker and Vince Poettker; five sisters, Ida Ottensmeier, Rose Woltering, Dorothy Poettker, Alvina Ottensmeier, and Leona Ottensmeier; eleven brothers-in-law, Gene Maue, Joe Maue, Aloys "Butch" Maue, Gene Langhauser, Vince Huelsmann, Ralph Beckmann, Gregory Maue, Ben Ottensmeier, Leo Ottensmeier, Henry Ottensmeier and Alfred Woltering.

Mrs. Maue was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She especially enjoyed quilting, gardening, and cooking. She was a member of St. Damian's Catholic Church and Altar Sodality. Verna also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan who rarely missed a game. In her younger years Vera was head cook at St. John's School in Belleville, and also worked in food services at Scott Air Force Base and did private catering.

A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Damian's Cemetery in Damiansville.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden.
