Erwin Rolves

Erwin Rolves, 86, of Carlyle, entered into rest on Thursday, September 27, 2007, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle.

He was born on August 7, 1921, in Albers, a son of Frank and Anna (Smith) Rolves. He married Lorena Poettker on November 11, 1947, in Breese, and she survives in Carlyle.

He is also survived by a daughter, Elaine Feldmann of Grand Rapids, Michigan; seven sons, Roger Rolves of Carlyle, Mark Rolves and wife Rita of Centralia, Norbert Rolves and wife Mickie of Colorado Springs, Co., Ray Rolves and wife Sandy of Hiram, Ga., Gregg Rolves and wife Judy of Greenville, Bruce Rolves and wife Betty of Indianapolis and Karl Rolves and wife Jody of Carlyle. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Vince Rolves and wife Loretta of Carlyle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Rolves, a granddaughter, four sisters, Christine, Bernadine, Irene and Clara; and two brothers, Frank and Henry.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Egypt during World War II. After his service, he worked at Scott Air Force Base for 33 years. Mr. Rolves also drove a bus for the Clinton County Senior Citizens for 17 years, tended bar at the VFW in Carlyle for many years, and farmed. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Carlyle VFW, and was a charter member of the Albers American Legion.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 1, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, officiating.

Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle handled the arrangements.
