John D. Haar

John D. Haar, 81, of New Baden, died Friday, January 2, -2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.
He was born January 1, 1928, in New Baden, son of John and Gertrude (Henke) Haar. He married Florence Heidel October 22, 1952 in Breese and she preceded him in death on January 11, 1997.
He is survived by his children, Theresa (Cornie) Gebke of Bartelso, Mike (Teresa) Haar of New Baden, Debbie (Ralph) Renth of Mascoutah and Don (Carol) Haar of New Baden; sixteen grandchildren, Kevin Gebke, Jeff Gebke, Scott Gebke, Chad Gebke, Brian Haar, Randy Haar, Brad Haar, Kelly Haar, Stacy Haar, Jen Renth, Mark Renth, Eric Renth, Samantha Haar, Jessie Haar, Nicole Schniers and Nathan Schniers; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mildred Deutschmann, Lucille Klingman, Keith (Linda) Haar and James (Rita) Haar all of New Baden; and son in-law, Mark Schniers of New Baden; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Diane Heidel of New Baden, Tom Heidel of Nashville and Iona Heidel of Red Bud.
In addition to his parents and his wife he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Jean Schniers; great-granddaughter, Alice Gebke; sisters, Catherine Macke, Agnes Macke and Mary Ann Ford; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Herman Macke, Henry Macke, Clarence Deutschmann, Laverne Klingman, Ed Ford, Maurice "Mays" Heidel, Bill Heidel, Helen and Ben Haar and Vi and Julius Lancaster; and father in-law and mother in-law, Herman and Mary (Mensing) Heidel.
Mr. Haar was retired from civil service as a civil engineer. He was a member of St. George Parish. He was an avid fisherman, painter and gardener.
A funeral mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, January 5, at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating.
Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden handled the arrangements.
