Nevelyn M. Quick

Nevelyn M. Quick, 90, of Shattuc, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at the Carlyle Health Care in Carlyle.

She was born August 8, 1918, in Shattuc, the daughter of Arthur D. and Lillian A. (nee Boyer) Nighswander. She married Burl A. Quick on August 8, 1967, in Shattuc and he survives her in Shattuc.

Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Gary Quick and wife Anita of Shattuc; two daughters, Doris Wells of Carlyle and Carol Wright of Ames, Iowa; and grandchildren, Kenneth Wright and wife Robin of Colorado Spring Colo., Kara B. Wright of Iowa City, Iowa, Douglas Wells of Oak Park, Dera Leadbetter and husband Ray of O'Fallon, Aren L. Quick of Carbondale and Darcy Quick of Blackburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Nathan E. Leadbetter, Ryan Leadbetter, Ethan Wright, Elsa Wright and Leanna Wright.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lillian Nighswander; a brother, Paul Nighswander; sisters, Laura Chatman, Ruth Riggs and Norma Hester.

She was raised in the rural community of Shattuc and followed the lead of her older sister's and graduated form Carlyle High School. She was a devoted and active member of the Shattuc United Methodist Church all of her youth and she held many office's in the church. She transferred her membership to the Boulder United Methodist Church in 1967. She served on the Church Board and she also was the Sunday School Secretary and Communion Stewart for both churches. She was a member of the Clinton county Home Extension, the Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked for the First National Bank in Sandoval for 20 years as an assistant cashier retiring in 1967. She was also a homemaker, loving wife and mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She enjoyed doing crafts in her spare time.

A celebration of life service was conducted on Wednesday, October 8, at 10 a.m. from the Day Funeral Home in Sandoval with Rev. Clayton Coffey officiating.

Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Centralia.

Day Funeral Home in Sandoval handled the arrangements.
