Verma C. Conrad, 84, of Shattuc died on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at St Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

She was born on September 9, 1923, at Boulder, a daughter of William and Catherine (Wurm) Pigg. She married J. Wayne Conrad on July 11, 1942, and he survives her in Shattuc.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sharon Stover of Shattuc; a daughter-in-law, Judy Conrad of Carlyle; grandchildren, Nicole Duncan and husband Doug of Moro, Teresa Howard and husband John of St. Louis Mo., Cindy Fischer and husband Bob of St. Louis Mo., Jennifer Campbell and husband Brett of Waterloo, and Nick Stover of Carterville; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wilma Fields of Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine; a son, Nelson Conrad; and a brother, John Pigg; a sister, Alma Brandon.

She was a life long Eastern Clinton County resident. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm. She is a fifty plus year member of the Diamond Springs Baptist Church and she served as Leader of the Vacation Bible School at the Church and was the President of the Women's Missionary Unit of the Kaskaskia Baptist Association of Southern Illinois for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an active person in her grandchildren's activities and accomplishments. She also enjoyed painting and reading.

Celebration of life services were held Monday, September 8, at 11 a.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Sandoval with Rev. Virgil Dowdin officiating.

Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Centralia.

Day Funeral Homes in Sandoval handled the arrangements.
