John V Goldsmith

John V. Goldsmith, 65, of Greenville, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the Greenville Regional Hospital in Greenville.

He was born on September 20, 1942, in Breese, the son of John C. and Martha (Adams) Goldsmith, He married Norma Greek on February 13, 1965, in Carlyle, and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2007.

He is survived by his mother of Greenville; a son, John E. Goldsmith of Greenville; a stepson, Tony Bohannon of Apex, N.C.; a brother, Shelby Goldsmith of Carlyle; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Sharon Kenne.

He grew up in the Carlyle area and graduated from Carlyle High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963. After he returned from the Navy he went to work as an operating engineer and worked out of Operating Engineer's Local 520. He also did some farming.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, August 10, at 7 p.m. at the Young Funeral Home in Greenville.

Burial was held in Smithgrove Cemetery in Greenville with graveside military rites by the Greenville V.F.W. Post --1377.
