Paul S. Holtgrave, 87

Paul S. Holtgrave, 87, of Carlyle died Wednesday, Dec. 1st, 2004, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.

He was born in Wade Township Oct. 11th, 1916, the son of Martin and Louise Isaak Holtgrave. He married Betty Rehkemper in St. Rose Aug. 23rd, 1949, and she preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Joan Luebbers and Doris Langhauser, both of Carlyle, and Bonnie Grapperhaus of Bartelso; two sons, Martin Holtgrave of New Baden and Paul Holtgrave of Carlyle; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Huels of Bartelso.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Marcel Holtgrave.

He lived near Beckemeyer until 1978 and he retired from the family grain and dairy farm and moved to Carlyle. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was a life member of the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227.

He was also a member of Clinton County Farm Bureau, Prairie Farms, and a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carlyle, where a Mass of Resurrection was held Saturday, Dec. 4th, at 10 a.m., with Father George Mauck officiating.

Burial followed in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Beckemeyer with military honors provided by the Beckemeyer American Legion.

Visitation was at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
