Veronica K. Menkhaus, 90

Veronica K. Menkhaus, 90, of Carlyle died Wednesday, March 17th, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

She was born on September 16th, 1913, in Beckemeyer, the daughter of Ben and Wilhelmina Steinmann Korte, and they preceded her in death. On April 28th, 1938, at St. Anthony's Church in Beckemeyer, she married Anthony Menkhaus, and he preceded her in death on August 10th, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Rita Wheelan and Susan Mitchell, both of Carlyle; a son, Phillip Menkhaus of Bartelso; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Leona Bango of Beckemeyer.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brett Wheelan; a brother, Frances Korte, three sisters, Rose Boeckmann and Veronika and Regina Korte.

Mrs. Menkhaus was a member of St. Mary's Church in Carlyle and was active in the St. Ann Altar Sodality and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She worked at Tappin's Clothing Store, Sterling Clothing Store and the Moran Shoe Company.

A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Monday, March 22nd, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, with Fr. George Mauck officiating.

Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation was at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
