Bernard 'Big' I. Gebke, 75
Bernard "Big" I. Gebke, 75, of Carlyle died Saturday, March 6th, 2004, at his residence.
He was born on August 21st, 1928, in Bartelso, the son of Bernard and Elizabeth Becker Gebke, and they preceded him in death. On June 6th, 1951, in St. Libory, he married Rita Sandheinrich, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bernard Mark and Dennis Gebke, both of Bartelso; three. daughters, Colleen Foppe of Aviston, Sandra Becker of Bartelso and JoAnn VanWinkle of Carlyle; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and a brother, Larry Gebke of Germantown.
Also, eight sisters, Cleo Eversgerd of Trenton, Frances "Sis" Michels and Dolores Kohnen, both of Germantown, Cecilia "Pat" Haake and Rosemary Goewert, both of Belleville, Agnes Benhoff of Breese, and Margie Jansen and Blanche Kohrmann, both of Bartelso.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cornelius, Norbert and Thomas Gebke, and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Eversgerd.
Mr. Gebke was an insurance agent. He was also a member of St. Mary's Church in Carlyle and Knights of Columbus in Bartelso.
A memorial mass was conducted on Tuesday, March 9th, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Bartelso, with Fr. Henry Fischer officiating.
In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Gebke donated his body to science.
Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle handled the arrangements.
