Mildred Virginia Hempen, 85

Mildred Virginia Hempen, 85, of Fredericktown, Mo., and formerly of Carlyle, died Monday, Jan. 5th, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born on Feb. 26th, 1918, in Bungay, in Hamilton County, the daughter of William and Ida Griswold Wicker. On August 17th, 1935, she married Louis F. Hempen, and they were later divorced.

Surviving are a son, Louis W. Hempen of Des Arc, Mo.; a daughter, Carol Smith of Fredericktown, Mo.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-granddaughters and a step-great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Paul Wicker of Tulsa, Okla.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, Ruby, Hazel and Mary; three brothers, Bill, Charles and an infant brother; a granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Hempen had lived in Carlyle and moved to Fredericktown, where she resided for the past 10 years. She worked for the Trimfoot Shoe Company for 22 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Jan. 9th, at 11 a.m. at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle, with Rev. Steven Goodin officiating.

Interment followed in Carlyle Cemetery.
