Dallas Earl Allen, Sr., 71
Dallas Earl Allen, Sr., 71, of Carlyle died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 8th, 2003, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born Nov. 13th, 1931, in Tamalco Township, Bond County, Ill., son of Earl and Lovenia Apple Allen. He married Betty Mae Wagner on Dec. 3rd, 1952, in Greenville, and she survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Allen is survived by two daughters, Vickie Anderson and husband Tom of Hoffman and Cindy Neumann and husband Jim of Highland, and five grandchildren, Stephanie Vonnahme of St. Louis, Nicole Rickert and husband John of Belleville, Thomas Allen Anderson and wife Laura of Carlyle, Erin Vonnahme of Carlyle, and Ethan Anderson of Hoffman, and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Rickert of Belleville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dallas Allen, Jr., and his parents.
Mr. Allen was a truck driver throughout life hauling cattle, can and bulk milk, interstate hauling, and crude oil. He was a grain and dairy farmer in addition.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War, and was awarded two bronze stars. Mr. Allen was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycle riding in his earlier years.
Mr. Allen loved to visit with his friends and always took the time to acknowledge all along his day.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Stephen Krenz officiating. Interment will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport. The United States Army Honor Guard will perform graveside military honors.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p. m. Friday and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or to the American Heart Association.
Visitation was at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Interment was in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery Beckemeyer.
