Retired Carlyle farmer Walter I. Laux died at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Thursday, Aug. 24th, 2000. He was 88 years old.

Born in Beckemeyer on Jan. 13th, 1912, he was a son of Martin and Frances Meyer Laux. On Dec. 1st, 1939, in St. Louis, he married Wilhelmina Holthaus. She died Oct. 25th, 1979.

Survivors include one son, Richard Laux of Carlyle; two daughters, Mrs. Arlene Berry and Diane Laux, both of Carlyle; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Cedella Cross of St. Louis and one brother, Herb Laux of Carlyle.

A sister, Celia Laux and one grandson, Eugene Rakers, preceded him in death.

Besides farming Mr. Laux also worked at the Beckemeyer Smelter.

A member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle, his funeral was held there at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26th with Rev. George Mauck officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle was in charge of arrangements.
