Mrs. Josephine Sutherland, 80

Mrs. Jennie Ragsdale Hooper Sutherland, 80, a resident of Carlyle Healthcare Center, died Sunday, May 25, in St. Joseph’s/Clinton County Hospital at Breese. She formerly was a resident of Springfield, Ky., where she was a funeral director.

She was born at San Antonio, Tex., July 15, 1899, the daughter of Wirt D. and Mary Claybrook Ragsdale. She was married Sept. 1, 1921, to Simeon Wirt Hooper, who died Dec. 13, 1948. She later married Fred Sutherland, who died Aug. 2, 1966.

Mrs. Sutherland is survived by two sons, Simeon V. Hooper of Venice, Calif., and James M. Hooper of Carlyle; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springfield and the Order of the Eastern Star there.

Mrs. Sutherland’s funeral was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon, Ky., with Rev. David Simpson officiating. Interment was in Ryder cemetery at Lebanon.

Local arrangements were made by the Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
