Walter Richter, 54, Ill With Diabetes, Dies in Hospital

Walter Richter, 54, who resided on a farm a short distance south of Breese, died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, in St. Joseph's Hospital here after an illness of three years. He had suffered for some time with diabetes, which had caused amputation of both of his legs at different intervals during his malady. For the past five days preceding his death he had been a patient in the hospital for treatment.

Mr. Richter was born at Breese September 7, 1907, a son of Bernard and Elizabeth (Boenhoff) Richter. He attended St. Augustine School.

On June 2, 1937, he was married to Miss Leona Zurliene, and they have been engaged in farming south of Breese.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Patricia, wife of Paul Spihlmann of Trenton; a brother, Al Richter of St. Louis; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Nettemeyer of Albers and Miss Vera Richter of Aviston, and one grandchild.

Deceased was a member of St. Augustine Church and the Holy Name Society.

The body is in state at the Bruegge-Heyer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in St. Augustine Church here Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. F.X. Heiligenstein officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Joseph Huelsmann, Louis Foppe, Charles Schaefer, Ferd Deiters, Carl Kues and Ed Jansen.
