PIONEER RESIDENT OF NEAR ST. ROSE DIES

John Alberternst, 81, Succumbs to Old Age

John Alberternst, 81, near St. Rose farmer all his long life, died Saturday at the home of his son, William Alberternst, near St. Rose. He had been in failing health for four years, but seriously ill only a week. Death was due to advanced age.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the St. Rose church. Rev. John Quack, pastor, was celebrant at the 8:30 o’clock solemn requiem high mass. Interment was in the St. Rose cemetery.

Six nephews served as pallbearers. They were Oscar and Arthur Schroer, Elmer and Vincent Alberternst and Eugene and Arnold Grapperhaus.

Mr. Alberternst was born in Breese Township October 7, 1856, a son of the late Ben Alberternst. He was united in marriage October 23, 1883, to Miss Adelaide Richter. Nine children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy. His wife died nine years ago.

He spent his entire life in Breese Township near St. Rose, following the farming vocation. He was one of the pioneer residents of Breese township and was widely known throughout Clinton county.

He was a good husband and father, a loyal member of the St. Rose church.

Left to mourn his loss are three daughters; Mrs. A. Sudholt, Aviston; Mrs. Henry Grapperhaus, Carlyle, and Mrs. Ben Schroer, St. Rose; five sons; Joseph of Trenton; Gerhard and William of St. Rose; John of Carlyle; and Victor of Aviston; also 50 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one brother, George Alberternst, of near Breese.

We join in mourning the departure of Mr. Alberternst and in extending sincere sympathy to bereaved.
