Harold “Scott” Shaver, 66, of Carlyle, died Wednesday, Feb. 7 at St. Joseph’s Clinton County Hospital in Breese after a sudden illness.

He moved to Carlyle in 1959 and was the resident engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the construction of Carlyle Lake and Carlyle Dam. He retired from the corps in 1967 after 35 years of service.

Born in Thebes in 1912, he was the son of Peter and Elzora (Bledsoe) Shaver. On Sept. 18, 1931 he married Louanna Corzine at Mounds. She survives.

Additional survivors include one son, Carl Shaver of rural Shattuc; one daughter, Mrs. Carol Taylor of Troy; three brothers, Russell Shaver of Madison, Gerald Shaver of Roxana and Pete Shaver of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Sanders and Mrs. Maurine Jeffries, both of Garden Grove, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

The deceased was a member of the A. F. and A.M. Lodge No. 93 of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Rev. David Myers officiated at funeral services held Saturday morning at the Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
