Joseph E. Kaulig, 75, died at 12:35 p.m. last Thursday, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Breese, where he had been a patient several weeks for treatment of cancer. He lived in Breese most of his life.

Deceased was born at Trimble, Ohio Feb. 23, 1903, a son of Gustav and Catherine (Kellner) Kaulig. He married Miss Ida Neumann in St. Dominic Church at Breese in September, 1927. To this union were born a son, James Kaulig of Breese and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Meyer of Breese, Mrs. Betty Jones of Trenton and Mrs. Rita Bible of Ladson, S. Carolina. The mother died April 3, 1960.

In April, 1969, Mr. Kauling married Mrs. Florence (Coers) Meier. They have always lived in Breese, and she survives residing at 533 N. Fourth Street in Breese.

Besides his four children and wife, he leaves a stepson, Dan Meier of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Frank Kaulig of Tomahawk, Wis., and Fred Kaulig of Cannelton, Ind., 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kaulig, who had been occupied as a coal miner during his life, was a member of St. Dominic Church.

The funeral was held from the Bruegge-Heyer Funeral Home Monday morning, with services in St. Dominic Church at eleven o’clock, conducted by the pastor, Msgr. John Fellner. Intermnent was in St. Dominic Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
