Life-long Aviston resident Lawrence F. “Snick” Markus died Friday, Jan. 19th, 1996, at Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was 83 years old.
Born in Aviston on May 7th, 1912, he was a son of Benedict and Sophia Hilmes Markus. On May 7th, 1941, in Aviston, he married Verena Wolters. She died April 22nd, 1988.
Survivors include five sons, Thomas, Larry, Charles, Daniel, and Mark Markus, all of Aviston; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Louis “Bozo” Markus and Andrew “Bud” Markus, both of Aviston, and Robert “Perp” Markus of Damiansville; one sister, Mrs. Renee Raterman of Aviston, and two great-nephews reared by Mr. Markus, Rick Gerner of Arizona and Randy Gerner of Texas.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald L. “Porky” and Benedict H.”Dick” Markus, and one daughter, Mary Francis Markus.
Mr. Markus was a retired postmaster at Aviston. He was a past fire chief and fireman for Aviston fire department.
He also was a member of St. Francis Church in Aviston where his funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22nd. Rev. Daniel Friedman officiated with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation was at the Brefeld Funeral Home in Aviston.
