Jos. J. Petermeyer Passes Away Here Monday

Joseph J. Petermeyer, a life-long resident of the community passed away at his home here Monday morning at 1:10 o’clock. His health had been failing for several years and as a result there were periods of time when he was confined to his bed. But this last time his health was so broken that he succumbed at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 6 days.

Mr. Petermeyer was born in St. Rose Township on July 5, 1880, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Petermeyer. He attended the local St. Dominic’s school, graduated and later on received his college education in St. Francis College at Quincy, Ill.

In the year 1904 he married Elizabeth Klutho in St. Dominic’s church here, Father Reinecke performing the ceremony. To this happy union 3 children were born, namely August of Beckemeyer, Paul of Breese, and Gregory, who died in 1938.

For a long number of years Mr. Petermeyer was engaged in the lumber business with his father but for the last several years, due to his failing health, was inactive in business.

During his life here in Breese, the deceased acquired the friendship of a great number of people he met and as a result his passing is a deep regret to many in this vicinity, who deeply mourn his death.

Besides his wife and 2 sons, he also leaves to morn 1 brother Ben Petermeyer of St. Rose; and four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Schuette of St. Rose; Mrs. Ann Niemeyer of Breese; Mrs. August Lager of Breese and Mrs. Ben Altepeter of St. Louis. He also leaves 5 grandchildren.

Deceased was always a devout Catholic, attending church services regularly and took an active part in affairs benefitting the church. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Married Men’s Sodality of St. Dominic church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 8 o’clock in St. Dominic’s Catholic Church here, with Rev. Msgr. Jos. Kaup, officiating. Burial took place in St. Dominic cemetery here.

We extend our sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
