Ben Ratermann Dies Suddenly Here Sunday

Ben M. Ratermann, residing on a farm about one mile north of Breese, died suddenly Sunday morning, April 2, at 7:30 o'clock. Apparently in good health, Mr. Ratermann was in Breese last Saturday night, mingling with friends. He arose Sunday morning to attend to his regular chores but complained he was not feeling well, he died shortly thereafter as the result of a stroke.

A son the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ratermann, deceased was born in Breese Township, Nov. 10, 1884, thus having attained the age of 59 years, 4 months, and 22 days at the time of his death.

On June 20, 1906, Mr. Ratermann was united in marriage to Elizabeth Von Hatten in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in St. Louis, Rev. Siebert officiating. Two daughters and four sons were born to this union namely; Mrs. Ann Schroer of St. Louis, Dominic of St. Louis, Louis in the Armed Forces, and Loretta, Lawrence and Aloys of Breese; all of whom survive their father. Mrs. Ratermann preceded her husband in death on March 29, 1943. Mr. Ratermann is also survived by four brothers; Fred, George, Henry and William and four grandchildren.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Ratermann lived in St. Louis for two years. They moved to Breese in 1908 where Mr. Ratermann followed the occupation of coal mining. In 1931 they decided to take up farming and occupied the old Hustedde Farm north of Breese where the family still resides.

Deceased was a life-long member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church and where he attended services regularly.

Mr. Ratermann was a member of the Western Catholic Union.

Deceased was a kind and loving father and as a neighbor and friend, he was always ready to assist anyone whenever he could. He was well known in this community.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday (yesterday) morning at 9 o'clock in St. Dominic's Church with a Solemn Requiem High Mass. rev. H.H. Aydt, acting as celebrant and assisted by Rev. Theodore Sieckmann and Rev. Elmer Holtgrave of Marydale.

Interment was in St. Dominic's Cemetery in this city.

The pallbearers were: Hy. Berndsen, Joseph Meyer, Henry Niemeyer, Leo Jansen, Raymond Schroeder, and August Voss, Sr.
