Herbstrith_brothers.jpg
Herbstreith Brothers - Louis, Charles and OttoThree sons of Karl Charles HERBSTRITT/Herbstreith and Maria Anna Bonnet of Lookinglass Township IL. Maria died in January 1873 of an illness, and Karl was tragically killed in Trenton IL while driving his team of horses and wagon through town and they bolted, throwing him out of the wagon and causing him to break his neck in July 1873. (Carlyle Union Banner article from July 1873). Both are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Trenton IL. The boys and a sister, Anna Maria (married Hugo Naegele of New Baden IL) were orphaned and raised by other family members. The sons eventually relocated to Henry County MO with other family, where Otto and Charles had their name changed spelling to HARBSTREET at some point in time. Louis retained the HERBSTREITH spelling of his name. Most members of the Harbstreet family line and subsequent generations are buried in Morris Cemetery in Henry County MO. The Naegele's remained in the New Baden area.Oct 29, 2011
