Read and photographed by Toni Kohrmann and Chad Parson on 3 March 2012
Toni Kohrmann and Chad Parson visited the Gillespies cemetery on 3 March 2012. Known burials here are from 1858 through 1884, so Toni and Chad might have been the first people to visit here in over 125 years. Toni asked for and received permission to visit the cemetery from the owner of the crops/land next door.
This cemetery is on the west side of Hopewell Road. The map pinpoints it. Click on the "Satellite" button for a closer view. The cemetery is sheltered in a clump of trees on a hill, next to a blue Harvestor silo.
A good time to visit this cemetery is in late Winter or early Spring before the new crop of weeds and the farmer's new crop begin to grow again. There were no sticker bushes this year but the overgrowth could become more of a challenge in summer. Toni and Chad did not find any critters!
